(Another) Regency Ball!

Since it seems that it falls to me to do event coordination and summaries:

A couple of weeks ago, Julie called me and said, "Hey! The Red Barn dance series is doing another ball like the one we went to in February. Wanna come?" So I invited all or most of Tortue and found that nobody but Mike could come. So we were just going to go. And then Mike got on the phone with Gwendolyn when he found out she wasn't going to be there and talked her into coming, so the three of us went.

We left for Mason, just south of Lansing, after we all got out of work and/or school. In Mason, we stopped at Mike's parents' house. I was petrified they wouldn't like me (seeing as I've known Mike for like, two years, and had never met them) and just wanted to go home as soon as we hit the end of the driveway. And then we walked in and they were so kind and welcoming, and then they fed us and I felt much better. Mr. and Mrs. McCarty and Mike's sister Annie came with us, so we all dressed and loaded into the family van, and Mr. McCarty drove us to the dance. We got there late, but there was still plenty of dancing left.

Mike and Gwendolyn looked amazing.

The new ballgown!

Julie's hair looked great; its fake. I mean, it's her hair, saved from her last haircut. Over the summer, she made it into little extensions that I curled and sprayed for her, so I was really happy to see her using them, and that they looked so well.

The McCarty family, all of whom I could not dislike despite my best attempts at being a classist idiot.

Gwendolyn, Kelly, and Annie. Kelly's one of Julie's dance friends--or maybe they work together? Something. She was at the last one, too.

And of course Mike looked decent.

I made a new dress. That hat, however, is Mike's. I was standing off to the side to take pictures when he rushed over, plopped the hat on my head, and grabbed the camera. I was then told on no uncertain terms that "We're making you one," because I apparently need a bicorn that adds another half a foot to my height.

I was glad to get to see Julie again. It's been too long.

At some point in my life, this became a running joke. I just have no idea at what point that was. Remember this?

...P.S. My hair looked great!

After the dance, we went back to Mike's parents' house and spent the night, where Gwendolyn and I shared one of the nicer beds I've ever slept in. And his parents woke up early with us and made us breakfast and were overwhelmingly nice. We drove back early, to get Gwendolyn to work, Mike & I shopped around at Field's a little, and then he took me home, where I promptly fell asleep for four hours to try and beat a little of that sleep debt from Wednesday night/Thursday morning.

Keep an eye on [livejournal.com profile] lachwen for another update on the event. Also, I'll be putting up a page on KatieJacobs.com for the new dress shortly!
