Well, it's certainly been a week of it. Where to begin? Well, last Saturday, I slammed my finger in my car door. Which in and of itself isn't terribly fascinating, but it sure turned some interesting colors afterwards.

I'm probably going to lose part of the nail, but it hurts less now than when I cut my thumb open and for that I'm grateful. It hurt a hell of a lot more when I actually did it, though. I don't actually remember there being much pain from cutting myself. This hurt like the dickens. Then it went numb and the whole rest of my arm hurt in sympathy. It felt better by that evening, though, and again I'm grateful because the next day, Gwendolyn and I went to Greenfield Village for their Civil War weekend.

Mostly, we went for a nice day out and to see Tyler in his natural reenacting setting--Civil War. Both she and I have no experience with that time period or group of reenactors, so it was a lot of fun seeing yet another breed of nerd at work. I say that with the highest possible respect, too.

We met Tyler, got our passes, and found JJ almost first thing, which was cool even though we didn't really see him again until the end of the day, since he's on staff at the Village and had duties to perform.

Gwendolyn and I both wore straw hats all day, which, while it won us quite a few odd looks, was a wonderful idea and spared us both squinting-headaches and sunburn of the hair-part.

Tyler belongs, I believe, to the 26th Michigan Volunteers. And since I know you'll see this sooner or later, Mister Putman, you should correct me if I'm wrong. The flag was hand-painted for them.

Lots of demonstrations. This was the final one, a bayonet charge. Turns out, the point wasn't to charge the enemy line at a dead run--they walked and kept to their ranks. Also, it took me the entire length of the demonstration to pick Tyler out and I was ridiculously pleased when I was finally able to do so; therefore the handy arrow.

I look lumpy and sweaty, but tolerably happy. That straw hat is ludicrous, also, but so nice in the heat.

And just to prove that I am capable of semi-decent Gwendolyn photography.

We went out to eat with Tyler afterwards and exchanged books, frames, and engravings. It was the most fun I've had in a long time. Definitely the most fun since Afternoon in the Park, for sure. And infinitely less stressful than that, too!

Then I came home to a week of sewing, the mundane life of a retail worker, and the excitement of a double shift when a coworker called in sick.

Also, I've finished up through book 12 in the Aubreyad, and am working my way through The Thirteen Gun Salute. That's twelve books of approximately 300 pages each in one month. I have a problem. But oh, what a delightful problem it is!
