Someone asked me why I like dressing up so much.

I...really don't have a good answer for that. So help me out, costumey people. Why do you wear costumes?

Because it's still fun to play dress-up sometimes, with friends. I still like making them more than wearing them though. :-)

It's fun! And I love making them, but all that hard work needs to be shown off somehow :)

I get that question a lot. People assume I make garbs for theatre or similar, and when I tell them I'm not they're just so confused. They can't see how this could just be the hobby of someone.

My main goal is to learn - to recreate history by learning how and why, to make every little detail of an outfit. It's not necessairly the actual dressing up that gives me a kick - though it's fun to wear the full ensemble and show it to people - but the research and material choice in front really gives me a kick.

I think that's the best answer I can give.

Hmmm let's see... It's... FUN !
- to feel pretty
- to see people's reactions to the costumes
- to ge to see the fashion from the past in 3D
- to create something pretty
- to keep learning in the sewing area and the costume history
- and since you put that much effort into a costume, you'd as well find an occasion to wear it.
Not necessarily in that order.
