Photoshoot #2, now with more canoes!

Julie's still working on her photo series of people in costume this fall; the 1890s swimsuits was the first, and this weekend we took some shots with a vintage wooden canoe. Not as many snapshots this time, since it was less of a logistical nightmare and therefore had less Sherpas with digital point-and-shoots. This time Julie's coworker Kristen and I dressed up, and Julie ran around in waders and a not-wooden canoe (steered by her dad) to photograph us.

Don't tip!

I had an absolute blast; it's been a couple years since I've been in a canoe and I didn't realize how much I missed it 'til I was out on the river and loving it. I was a little nervous--the vintage canoe was smaller than what I'm used to, but I needn't have worried. It was very maneuverable and responsive to steering (which is what I did, since I'm technically experience and Kristen had been in a canoe just once before), and not tippy at all.

Also, Julie is the only person on the planet that can make me wear a hat like that; she made it this morning and finished it before lunch. The blouse is a last minute contraption that I cut out and my mom assembled. The skirt, however, was made for me by Julie, out of the rest of the black pinstripe wool I gave her for her bathing costume. The belt is just an old length of silk ribbon I had in my car (...go figure) that looked nice with the peacock feathers.

I'd been paddling for a while; what do you want from me? I think I described myself as a "trashy hobo Victorian" at this point--I was wearing button boots but left the tops open, so I felt hobo-ish, I guess.
All in all, good times were had, and I vow to not let it be two years until my next canoe excursion.
