Sep. 29th, 2003 10:43 pmI'm having costume cold feet. I really love this dress, the blue one from LOTR that I tried to make for homecoming. But it didn't turn out as nicely as I'd hoped then, and now I kind of want to make another version for the premiere of ROTK in December. A lot of people have made it since then, though, and they've made really good ones. I don't feel like I can compete, but that isn't even the point--except, I keep comparing myself to those ladies who are phenomenal seamstresses and heck, some of them even make their own chainmail and wigs and everything. I can't do that. I'm just a poor high school senior with way too much to do an not enough hours in the day. I love to sew, but right now I can't devote the time to it that I'd like, nor the money. Around here, I'm special. Nobody else at school (for example) likes to sew or makes their own formals or anything, but then I go look at someone else's work and mine looks really crappy. I mean, I know that no matter how good you are, there's always going to be someone better, but it's still really discouraging. I can't even find the time to buy underwear, much less go out and shop for expensive sari silk to make a perfect recreation of Arwen's requiem gown like I'd like. I can barely do my work, forget about beading six feet of silver trim for the neck and sleeves of the dress that I want to be spectacular but fail miserably at making.

Date: 2003-09-30 06:14 pm (UTC)I can barely sew myself and I have never been able to put a decent costume together compared to my best friend's outfits. But I am learning and that I am trying me best with this latest costume.
One can only do so much with the amount of money and time one hands. There are plenty of ways to make a good costume with out having to go that far out. It just a matter of ways of finding the short cuts. ^_^
